Naomi Shavin on Process and Media

Cell Phone Audio Tour

49 plays

Naomi Shavin discusses Stefan Sagmeister’s 1999 AIGA Detroit poster and its implications in relation to process and media.

The audio tour segments were recorded by students of the year-long seminar “Writing through Culture and Art,” a collaboration between ICA and the Center for Programs in Contemporary Writing.

This year, the class has studied Stefan Sagmeister whose practice touches upon subjects as diverse as the history of body and performance art, the effects of psychopharmaceuticals on artistic production, and concrete poetry. The students came up with a series of difficult questions that they asked Sagmeister in an in-depth interview, conducted over the course of two days.

These eight audio guides, each of which is written by a student in class, reveal the insights gleaned from this interview.
